THE IMAGES

Hagley’s color slides include dramatic shots of Isely Field with images of the B-29 Superfortress, B-25 Mitchell and B-24 Liberator. Included in the collection are shots of the 20th Air Force base operations building and various structures in and around Isely Field including the mysterious intact airplane hangar. There’s even a photo of the 73rd Bombardment Wing movie theater! Hagley also took a great shot of Mt.Tapotchau with its 1,554 foot peak, located at the center of the island. One of Hagley’s most intriquing images came from the shores of Saipan. The photo shows the island of Tinian in the distance and if you look closely, its airstrips. Even more remarkable is the image of a plane parked on the runway! Could Hagley have unknowingly captured a photo of the Enola Gay before it left on its historic mission to Hiroshima?

All of Hagley’s Kodachrome slides are featured in the Mystery of Saipan Documentary and are available for purchase on this website
